After all of the contacts, known places, and organizations have been added, the investigator can build the organization charts.  These organization charts can be sorted, modified, and updated to “story board” the people, places, and groups involved.  And present their case data in a clear, concise manner.

Building the Organization Chart: Choose or add an organization to begin building the chart.

Click Design/Edit Chart at the bottom of the form to edit the layout of the organization chart.  This can be edited at a later time if desired.  Contacts added to the organization are listed down the left side of the chart.

Drag each contact onto the chart as needed to begin building the organization. To draw lines from a contact to their subordinate, hold the left SHIFT button and click/drag from the center of the starting thumbnail to the center of the ending thumbnail. After the line has been added, a details dialog box is displayed to enter any details about the connection that may be important. Click OK to add the note and return to the editor page.

Repeat until all lines have been added. Where notes on the connection exist, the line is bold, where no lines exist, the line is normal. As a contact is dragged around to reposition it on the chart, the connection lines and hierarchy follow.

Click on the bead in the line to add or edit the connection details.

Individual contacts on the chart can be edited. On the right side of each contact, there are small icons for (top to bottom) editing the contact record, removing from the chart, shrink to thumbnail, increase/decrease size of contact in the chart.

-Editing the contact record opens the same dialog as adding or editing in the organization details window.

-Removing a contact from the chart places the contact back on the left side of the screen. To remove the contact entirely from the organization, go back to the organization details window.

-Shrinking the contact to a thumbnail is available for use in very crowded charts. Right click the shrunken contact to restore it to normal size.

-Increasing or decreasing the size of the contact can help give a quick visual perspective of higher ranking contacts.

Graphics, callouts, and known places can be added to the organization chart by right clicking in a blank area and choosing the desired add in.

Adding a known place brings up a selection of known places that have been added to the global contacts page. A search option is available for longer lists of places. Choose the place and click OK to add to the chart editor.

The known place can then be dragged to the desired location. Lines can be drawn from the place to a contact by holding the left shift key and drawing a line from thumbnail to thumbnail. Again, details for the line can be added when the line is added, or added later by clicking the bead on the line and adding the notes.

Adding a graphic allows a picture file to be selected from the computer and added to the organization chart. Lines can also be drawn between other items on the chart and the graphic.

Callouts are text blocks added to the organization chart to provide text descriptions of important items.

The organization chart can be printed by clicking the print icon at the lower right. Click OK to return to the global contacts main screen.
